At the scarp’s top, Mn-Fe encrusted rock layers provide excellent hard substrate for sessile and mobile organisms, and access to food-rich currents that pass over the ledges. The slight overhang indicates the layer is more resistant to erosion than layers below. [Laser beams are 10 cm apart.]
